Dowel joint in birch
A dowel joint in birch uses a birch dowel, a round wooden pin, driven into matching holes in the pieces being joined.
Preparing the holes
Jones (1920) records ready-made birch dowel-rod, a length of dowel, as a common material. He says the bit, the cutting tool used for boring, must make holes into which the rod will drive rather tightly.
