Keruing is a timber that is easy to saw and machine, especially when freshly cut, but its silica can dull cutting tools.

Texture and grain

Keruing has a moderately coarse texture. Its grain may be straight or shallowly interlocked, meaning that the fibres change direction slightly between growth layers.

Work it with care

Sawing and machining are easiest while the timber is green, or freshly cut. High silica content is hard on saws and cutters, so expect the edges of tools to dull readily during the work.
