Obeche is a hardwood chosen above all for how easily it works. It cuts cleanly with both hand tools and machines, dulling a cutting edge only slightly.

Common uses

Obeche commonly goes into furniture parts, interior trim, joinery, cabinet framing, the structural framework hidden inside a finished cabinet, and model making.

Veneer and panels

Obeche's properties also suit it to veneer, a thin decorative layer glued onto a surface, and to corestock, the inner layers built up inside a panel. As the USDA put it in 2021: "The characteristics of obeche make it especially suitable for veneer and corestock."
