A hand drill is a manually operated tool that turns a drill bit, a cutting tool used to make holes.

Main parts

The bit is held in a chuck, a gripping holder at the front of the drill. The handle and body allow the user to turn the bit by hand.

The action

As the bit turns, its cutting edges remove material and form a hole. The hole follows the direction in which the drill is held.
