A biscuit joiner, also called a plate joiner, is a handheld power tool that cuts arc-shaped slots sized to take biscuits, thin oval wafers of compressed beech that are glued into the slots to align and strengthen a joint between two boards.

What it cuts

A biscuit joiner can cut its slots in either the flat faces of boards or their edges. This method, gluing oval compressed-beech biscuits into the cut slots, is suited only to larger-sized work.

Setting and using it

The tool's height adjustment should be set so the cut falls at the centre of the panel's thickness. Some biscuit joiners carry a centring mark on the tool's side to help set that height. A biscuit joiner should not be run one-handed while the other hand holds the workpiece.
